India Secures Passage for Ships Through Strait of Hormuz

India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Friday reported that India successfully secured the exit of 11 ships from the vital Strait of Hormuz, while 13 additional vessels remain under observation in the Gulf.

“We continue to be in touch with Iranian authorities so that the remaining ships can also cross Strait of Hormuz and come to India which is their destination,” he said.

New Delhi Condemns Cross-Border Terrorism

He also condemned Pakistan’s use of ‘cross-border terrorism’ as New Delhi marked the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, launched after the Pahalgam terror attack.

“We gave a befitting reply to Pakistan for its sponsorship of cross-border terrorism. The world knows that cross-border terrorism has long been used by Pakistan as an instrument of state policy. We in India have every right to defend ourselves against terrorism,” Jaiswal said.

“IWT (Indus Water Treaty), as I had said earlier as well, it stands in abeyance in response to Pakistan’s sponsorship of cross-border terrorism. Pakistan must credibly and irrevocably abjure its support for cross-border terrorism,” he continued.

On May 7, 2025, Operation Sindoor was launched in retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 people, mostly Hindu tourists and pilgrims. Indian forces struck and dismantled nine major terror infrastructure sites deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The ensuing border escalation ended with a ceasefire on May 10.

India to Host BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting

Jaiswal announced that New Delhi will host the upcoming BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting as chair of the bloc in 2026, with details of participants disclosed in due course.

“As far as the confirmation and dates etc are concerned, we shall be giving you an update on both these aspects at the appropriate time,” he said.
