On Apr. 10, 2026, 30-year-old Deva Nur Hanifah arrived in Singapore for the first time. She left behind her elderly parents, both in their 60s, and her two daughters, aged 4 and 10, in Tulung Agung, Indonesia.
Like many parents who leave home to work overseas, Deva made a difficult choice to be away from her children, hoping to support their education, daily needs, and future.
Less than three months after arriving in Singapore, everything changed.
Deva Remains in Critical Condition
On June 30, Deva suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and was rushed to Changi General Hospital, where she was admitted to the ICU.
Following the cardiac arrest, Deva underwent a 72-hour brain preservation treatment while under sedation. Since then, Deva has remained unconscious and continues to need intensive medical care.
According to her fundraiser, Deva relies on a ventilator to breathe, receives tube feeding for nutrition, and is being treated with antibiotics for serious infections. Doctors have also conducted two MRI scans after finding abnormalities, while two separate bacterial bloodstream infections were identified during her ICU stay.
Deva’s condition remains critical, and the medical team continues to monitor her closely.
Family Appeals for Support
For Deva’s employer, seeing a young mother who came to Singapore to work for her family now fighting for her life in the ICU has been heartbreaking.
Back home, Deva’s two young daughters are being cared for by her elderly parents, who are also facing the emotional weight of their daughter’s condition while looking after the children.
The fundraiser shared that Deva’s insurance coverage has already been fully used and is not enough to cover the ongoing medical expenses. A total of SGD 128,000 is being raised to help with hospital bills and continued treatment.
