Eight-Film Programme Brings Together New Hong Kong Cinema and Restored

Filmmakers to Meet Singapore Audiences at Screenings and Special Talk
Organised by the Asian Film Awards Academy, co-organised
by Singapore Film Society,supported by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau’s Create Hong
Kong (CCIDA), the Film Development Fund (FDF) and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade
Office in Singapore, the Hong Kong Film Gala PresentaSon – Singapore will take place from 11
September (Friday) to 13 September (Sunday), 2026, at Shaw Theatres Lido, presenSng eight
(8) Hong Kong films to local audiences and showcasing the diversity, creaSvity and vitality of
Hong Kong cinema.
Asian Film Awards Academy ExecuSve Director Josie LIN welcomed the presentaSon’s return
to Singapore, saying, “It is always meaningful for us to bring Hong Kong cinema to audiences
in Singapore. This year’s showcase reflects the diverse visions of Hong Kong filmmakers,
exploring themes from youth and relaSonships to food, female empowerment and life choices.
We hope these engaging, human-centred stories will resonate with Singapore audiences
across cultural boundaries.”
Looking ahead to this year’s programme, Kenneth TAN, Chairman of Singapore Film Society,

Singapore, to the original venue where we co-organised our first event with the Asian Film
Awards Academy , with a programme that brings together different generaSons of Hong Kong
cinema. From two Bruce Lee classics to exciSng works by today’s filmmakers, the eight-film
selecSon reflects both a remarkable cinemaSc heritage and an industry that conSnues to
evolve. For Singapore audiences and our filmmaking community, it is a valuable opportunity
to experience these films on the big screen and engage directly with the people behind them.”
Eight Films Showcasing Hong Kong Cinema Across GeneraEons
The Hong Kong Film Gala PresentaSon will open with Dog Day Evening, with director MAK Tin
Shu and actress Rachel LEUNG acending the event and meeSng Singapore audiences. The
programme conSnues with Because of You Ka Kui, Wakesurf Lovers, The Da9ng Menu, Gamer
Girls and The Snowball on a Sunny Day, presenSng a selecSon of recent Hong Kong
producSons with disSncSve stories, characters and creaSve perspecSves.
CompleSng the eight-film line-up are two landmark works starring Bruce Lee: Enter the
Dragon and The Way of the Dragon, with the lacer presented in 4K restoraSon. Their inclusion
offers audiences the opportunity to revisit two enduring classics on the big screen while
celebraSng an important chapter in the history and internaSonal influence of Hong Kong
cinema.
Hong Kong Filmmakers Meet Singapore Audiences
Three Hong Kong filmmakers will acend this year’s presentaSon: director MAK Tin Shu, whose
Dog Day Evening has been selected as the opening film; actress Rachel LEUNG, appearing in
Dog Day Evening and The Da9ng Menu; and actress Renci YEUNG who stars in The Da9ng
Menu and Wakesurf Lovers.
Their presence will bring audiences closer to the creaSve process behind the films and provide
opportuniSes for direct exchange between Hong Kong filmmakers and Singapore audiences.
Director on Director: MAK Tin Shu × Kelvin SNG
In addiSon to the screenings, a special talk, “Director on Director: Mak Tin Shu × Kelvin Sng,”
will take place on 13 September. Bringing together Hong Kong director MAK Tin Shu and
Singapore filmmaker Kelvin SNG, the conversaSon will offer perspecSves from two directors
working in different filmmaking environments. This event is free for the public. RegistraSon
required.
Through their exchange, the directors will discuss their creaSve journeys, approaches to
filmmaking and experiences bringing stories from concept to the screen, while sharing their
perspecSves on filmmaking in Hong Kong and Singapore.
