Doll Lovers Gather

Hundreds of doll enthusiasts flocked to Hong Kong for the annual Dollism Plus convention on Monday, filling the venue with customised figures, elaborate costumes, and miniature creations from across the ball-jointed doll (BJD) collector community.
Footage shows rows of intricately crafted dolls, stuffed toys, teddy bears and fantasy characters displayed across exhibition tables at the Hopewell Hotel.

Custom Dolls Showcase

“I had a lot of fun taking photos and helping them choose clothes and wigs. BJDs offer more freedom than other dolls; you can change any accessories and position them however you like,” shared visitor Hara.

Guests browsed stalls filled with miniature clothing, wigs, jewellery and accessories, while exhibitors carefully styled dolls, swapped custom parts and shared their collections with fellow enthusiasts.

Collectors Share Passion

Exhibitor Elyse introduced one of the event’s historic brands.
“Steiff is a 145-year-old German brand. […] They made the world’s first Teddy Bear,” she said.
Doll enthusiast Shuna spoke about the emotional connection collectors often develop with their creations.

“It’s been 19 years. This is my first and only doll. It feels like family; it brings peace of mind,” Shuna detailed.
Exhibitor Hime added that gatherings like Dollism Plus offer something online shopping cannot.

Global Doll Community

Dollism Plus event brought together more than 150 international brands, independent artists and collectors, showcasing everything from anime-inspired ball-jointed dolls to handcrafted outfits, furniture and miniature worlds.
Since its launch in Hong Kong in 2006, Dollism Plus has grown into one of the world’s leading conventions dedicated to ball-jointed dolls, later expanding to events in Japan and the United States.

Many artists create limited-edition dolls and accessories exclusively for the exhibition, making the event a highlight on the international collector calendar.

The popularity of customised dolls continues to grow worldwide, driven by adult collectors and social media, with many enthusiasts treating the hobby as a blend of art, fashion and storytelling.
The global BJD market was valued at around $1.9 billion (1.6 billion EUR) in 2025 and is projected to grow to approximately $3.5 billion (3 billion EUR) by 2034, driven by rising demand from adult collectors and the growing popularity of customised dolls.
