Tamil Devotees Fill Harrow
Thousands of Tamil Hindu devotees flooded the streets of Harrow in northwest London on Sunday as a towering, brightly decorated chariot carrying Lord Ganesha rolled through the neighbourhood for the annual Shri Sithi Vinayagar Chariot Festival.
Footage shows the chariot turning onto Station Road as worshippers follow behind, carrying paal kudam, dancing with Kavadi and filling the streets with drums, music and colour.
Colourful Chariot Takes Streets
The festival symbolises Lord Ganesha leaving the temple and travelling with the chariot to confront evil.
The September 6 celebration, also known as Ther Thiruvizha, was organised by Shri Sithi Vinayagar Thevasthanam, with Lord Ganesha carried through the surrounding streets on the decorated chariot.
Centuries-Old Tradition Continues
The annual festival is one of the biggest religious and cultural gatherings for Harrow’s Tamil Hindu community, bringing centuries-old traditions out of the temple and into the heart of northwest London.
