A Record-Breaking Length

Indian content creator Renu Dhariyal has officially broken the Guinness World Record for the longest hair on a living woman, with her epic locks trailing along the floor when fully untied.

Footage shows Dhariyal carefully detangling her hair and applying natural oil to nourish it. She can also be seen holding her Guinness World Records certificate and medal, along with other accolades.

“I am very proud that I have achieved this achievement,” Dhariyal said on Monday.

Her extraordinary locks measure at an astonishing 271.50 cm (8 ft 10 in), almost reaching the height of a standard residential ceiling.

Growing Her Hair Since 2015

Dhariyal said she has been growing her hair continuously without getting a trim since 2015. Her record was officially measured in Haldwani on April 15, 2026.

Guinness World Records posted her accomplishment in August, lauding her for making her country and community proud.

But the feat hasn’t been easy. Maintaining her lengthy tresses is a tedious process that requires plenty of patience, she said.

Hours Spent On Hair Care

“It takes me half an hour a day to wash my hair, one hour to dry my hair, and one hour to detangle my hair. I spend this much time in a day to maintain my hair,” she explained.

According to Dhariyal, the secret lies in a natural hair oil that she makes at home using herbal ingredients including aloe vera, Indian gooseberry, soapnuts, soap pod, false daisy and water hyssop.

“For people who want to keep long hair, there are many things to consider when maintaining hair, such as how to comb it, using a wide-tooth comb, taking your time while combing, and combing properly,” she advised.

Inspired By Indian Traditions

Her journey is deeply inspired by Indian cultural traditions that celebrate long hair as a symbol of beauty and heritage.

She surpassed the previous world record of 257.33 cm (8 ft 5 in), held by Aliia Nasyrova of Ukraine.
