A 40-year-old father who works cross-border in Singapore landed in a Johor court on July 29 over the death of his toddler.
G.Thevendhiran stands accused of murdering his 18-month-old son back in September 2023. Court documents pinpoint the alleged crime between 8:30 AM and 10:00 AM at Straits View Condominium in Bandar Baru Permas Jaya. Standing before Magistrate Nurzihan Abdul Rehman, the suspect nodded to confirm he understood the Section 302 murder charge. Court clerks recorded no plea because capital offenses in Malaysia move straight to the High Court for trial.
Facing Heavy Penalties Under Malaysian Law
Paramedics rushed the unconscious boy to Hospital Sultan Ismail on September 13, 2023, but doctors couldn’t save him.
If judges find him guilty, he faces two potential outcomes under local law: the death penalty, or 30 to 40 years behind bars with at least 12 strokes of the cane. Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Deana Aqilah Aliman handled the state’s case, while the accused stood in the dock without a lawyer representing him.
Separate Jail Sentence Over Phone Content
When police initially nabbed Thevendhiran in the condo parking lot on July 18, officers seized his mobile phone and uncovered explicit media.
Brought before Magistrate A. Shaarmini on a separate Section 292(a) charge, he admitted guilt right away. The bench handed him a one-month jail sentence and a RM3,000 fine, adding three months of jail time if he fails to pay. Legal aid attorney Noor Asyikin Shafiqah Atham Malik represented him on that count.
Case Scheduled For October Return
Magistrates set October 1 for the next mention. Right now, investigators are waiting on pending DNA, chemical, and forensic pathology reports before formally transferring the murder trial to the High Court. Police reclassified the child’s death following fresh leads this month, and the suspect remains locked up as the legal process moves ahead.
