A video shared on the Complaint Singapore Facebook page has sparked outrage after capturing a driver of a white BMW removing a boom gate barrier to avoid paying a parking fee.
Outrageous Parking Fee
A recent viral 23-second video began with a man in a black shirt stepping out of his luxurious car at the parking facility’s boom gate.
Upon closer inspection of the footage, it reveals that the parking fee for the vehicle was SGD46.21. This hefty fee likely prompted the man’s drastic actions seen in the video. Additionally, netizens raised questions about how long had he been parked there to reach such a high amount of parking fee.
Vandalizing Boom Gate
Equipped with a knife, the man exits his car, slips under the boom gate barrier, and cuts the zip ties securing it. He then casually moves the boom gate to the side and discards it on the ground. This whole ordeal was recorded by another individual, presumably another passenger in his car. After the act, they returned to the vehicle and drove away nonchalantly.
Public Reaction
The incident has incited strong reactions from the public. Many Singaporeans condemned the driver’s actions and called for stringent measures against him.
Questions arose about how long he was parked there, with some commenting on the irony of owning a luxurious car but failing to pay parking fees.
Additionally, there was widespread criticism of the driver’s friend for casually recording and uploading the incident on social media, seemingly flaunting their disregard for the law.
The video has since gone viral, with many urging the authorities to track down and prosecute the driver to set a precedent against such behavior. The incident highlights the ongoing issue of individuals attempting to circumvent parking fees and the need for stricter enforcement of rules to maintain order and respect for public property.
