AR Rahman is on the hunt for Tamil Nadu’s next big voice.
The legendary composer has teamed up with new entertainment channel Sony Vizha to launch Tamil Idol, a reality singing show produced by Fremantle India, with episodes set to stream on Sony Vizha and Sony LIV.

A statement by the makers of the show reads, “With AR Rahman leading the search, the show aims to discover, celebrate, and nurture the next extraordinary Tamil voice.”
Announcing the news on social media, AR Rahman revealed that auditions kicked off on Monday 17 August, inviting aspiring singers across Tamil Nadu to register via the Sony LIV app.
“The search for new voices is at the heart of music, voices that go on to reach millions. Through this journey, we uncover new talent, fresh perspectives, and the untold stories of generations. With ‘Tamil Idol,’ for the very first time, we bring together the extraordinary voices of Tamil Nadu and give them a platform to be celebrated,” said AR Rahman.
