On January 1, 2025, two teenage girls in Gujranwala, Punjab, Pakistan, set their father on fire while he slept, leading to his death from severe burns.
The incident occurred in the Mughal Chowk, approximately 80 km from Lahore.
Allegations of Abuse
The girls, aged 12 and 15, confessed to the act, revealing that they were allegedly sexually harassed by their father, Ali Akbar.
According to police reports, the older daughter had been facing sexual abuse for about a year, while the father attempted to rape the younger one twice.
The girls explained that they had “planned” the attack as a means to end their prolonged suffering, using petrol from their father’s motorcycle to set him on fire while he slept.
Family Background
According to the Hindustan Times, Ali Akbar, 48, had three wives and ten children. His first wife had passed away, and his two remaining wives and children lived in a rented house.
Both mothers were reportedly aware of the abuse, but neither was involved in the girls’ actions.
The Aftermath
Following the attack, the girls were arrested, and police have launched a further investigation. Statements from the two wives are being gathered, with one under arrest while the other is being questioned.
Authorities expect to present the case to court soon.
According to police official Rizwan Tariq, the girls’ actions were motivated by their desperate desire to escape and find a “permanent solution.”
As the investigation continues, the girls’ experiences will play a central role in the legal proceedings.
