Protesters Accuse Government of Undermining Democracy
Dozens of anti-Netanyahu protesters marched through West Jerusalem, accusing the government of ‘ruining’ the country by ‘taking over’ the judicial institutions and ‘corrupting’ the democratic system on Saturday night.
Footage shows protesters beating drums, chanting slogans and waving flags before scuffling with police near official buildings.

“This government is ruining this country systematically. Morally and with the law. They plan to annex parts of the West Bank. They do it slowly <…> through the courts as well, trying to take over the democratic system to take it down. And I’m against it. I see my country going to shit,” said Ido.
Calls for Accountability and Political Change
Demonstrators claim that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is trying to divert attention from his court cases, and October will be the month for change.

“The committee that should have started to investigate what happened, what led to October 7. And all of these things can happen only when we change the government,” said Masha.
Criticism of War Goals and Leadership
She added that her ‘biggest disappointment’ with the ongoing war is that it has failed to achieve its goal of liberating the Iranian people from what she described as an ‘authoritarian’ government.

“Well, definitely, people who are responsible for this don’t want the commission to happen <…> And now there are different ways of trying to escape it. And to suggest that other committees, commissions that are not the one that is mandated by the law,” she continued.
Wider Protests and Demand for Independent Inquiry
Earlier, hundreds of protesters gathered in Tel Aviv demanding a state commission of inquiry into the October 7 attacks and calling for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to be held accountable.

The protests come as the Israeli government continues to block and deny the immediate formation of a legally binding, independent investigation into the October 7, 2023, attacks by Hamas.
