Drivers on the East-West Highway in Malaysia received a surprise this week when a video of a tiger went viral online. The short clip shows the large animal walking calmly along the side of the road at night.

The footage was originally posted on TikTok and quickly spread across social media platforms, causing both excitement and worry among the local community.

Wildlife Authorities Respond Quickly

The Department of Wildlife and National Parks, known as PERHILITAN, took immediate action after seeing the video. Although nobody filed a formal report, the department sent officers to the area to investigate.

Director Mohd Taufik Abdul Rahman confirmed that his team is now monitoring the road near Bukit Jala. They want to make sure the tiger does not pose a danger to people driving through the forest area.

The East-West Highway, also known as JRTB, cuts through thick tropical rainforests. These forests are the natural home of the Malayan tiger. While it is rare to see them so close to traffic, experts say the animals sometimes wander near the road while searching for food or moving between different parts of the jungle.

Safety Advice for Motorists

The authorities have shared important safety tips for anyone who might see a tiger while driving. They explained that the best thing to do is stay calm. Drivers should slow down their cars but should never stop to take photos or videos. It is also very important to stay inside the vehicle with the windows rolled up.

Officers also warned against using the car horn too much. Loud noises can scare or anger the tiger, which might cause it to act aggressively toward the car. By staying quiet and moving slowly, drivers can allow the animal to return to the forest safely without any conflict.

Preventing Public Panic

PERHILITAN is also asking the public to be careful about what they share online. They urged people not to spread unverified stories or old videos, as this can cause unnecessary fear.

The department will continue to watch the highway closely to keep both the public and the wildlife safe. Currently, the situation is under control, and the road remains open for travel.
