Deadly Airport Crash

At least five people have been killed, and five others are injured on Sunday after an Amazon Air cargo plane barrelled off the runway at Miami International Airport before crashing into several vehicles and catching fire.

Footage shows emergency crews surrounding the damaged Amazon-branded aircraft.

Amazon confirmed the aircraft was operating for its Amazon Air network under cargo carrier 21 Air.

“This is a fast-moving situation and we’re still gathering details. We’re working closely with local authorities and officials to understand exactly what happened. Right now, our absolute priority is the safety, well-being, and care of everyone involved,” the company’s spokesperson Kelly Nantel stated.

Plane Overruns Runway

The incident took place at 14:00 local time after 21 Air Flight 7598 overran the runway after landing, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said. The Boeing 767-300 cargo aircraft had departed from Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Chief Ray Jadallah called the incident ‘complex,’ adding that a ‘couple of victims’ were trapped in the vehicles.

Rescue Operation Underway

Nearly 200 fire rescue personnel responded to the scene, with three people transported in critical condition and crews working to mitigate an active fuel leak.

Crash Cause Investigated

FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board have launched investigations into the crash. The cause of the runway overrun has not yet been established.
