A Familiar Face Was Still There
A man came home after the devastating floods in Nepal to find mud, debris and belongings scattered around his property. But he also found his dog there to greet him. Several chickens had survived as well.
The black-and-white dog went straight towards the man when he arrived. With its tail wagging, it followed him as he walked around and took a closer look at what the water had done. Mud had made its way into the house and many things were no longer where they had been before. The chickens could be seen nearby, walking around despite the mess.
Dog Keeps Following Him Around
As the man checked different parts of the property, the dog kept close. It would follow him, stop near him and then come back again whenever he moved elsewhere.
He eventually brought out some food for the animals, but the dog did not immediately move away. It continued staying close to him as he looked around the house.
During the reunion, the man also spoke to the animals, although his exact words could not be confirmed from the available audio.
The chickens seemed to be doing fine too. They wandered around while the man went through the property, occasionally appearing alongside the dog. It was a very different scene from the home itself, where the flood had left plenty of cleaning and recovery work behind.
Deadly Floods Swept Through Nepal
The man’s return came after Nepal was hit by devastating flooding on Aug. 26. The disaster began high in the Himalayas, where a large amount of glacier ice and rock collapsed. The collapse sent water and debris rushing downstream through the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems.
Rasuwa was among the districts hit hard by the disaster. Nuwakot and Dhading were affected too. As the floodwater moved downstream, houses were swept away and key roads and bridges were damaged. The Trishuli River reportedly climbed by as much as nine metres in about half an hour.
In the days that followed, the extent of the disaster became clearer. By Sept. 3, authorities had reported at least 1,204 deaths. More than 4,200 people were still listed as missing, while around 20,000 homes were expected to require rebuilding.
Search operations continued across areas hit by the floods. For residents who were able to return, many came back to homes filled with mud or badly damaged by the water.
His Animals Made It Through
That was the situation facing the man when he reached his own property. There was no hiding the damage. Mud was spread across the house and his belongings had been knocked out of place.
Still, he was not alone while looking through it all. His chickens walked around nearby, apparently having survived whatever happened at the property during the flooding.
The dog was much harder to miss. It kept going back to the man and followed him as he moved from place to place. Its tail continued wagging throughout much of the reunion. Even when food appeared, the dog was soon back beside him.
The house had been left in a mess and there was plenty for the man to sort through. His dog and chickens, however, were alive and still at the property when he finally came home.
