Jakarta Building Fire
A major fire tore through the upper floors of Jakarta’s Abdul Muis Technical Service Building on Friday night, sending flames across six floors and triggering a large emergency response in the Indonesian capital.
Footage shows flames engulfing the upper section of the building as burning debris falls to the ground. Fire engines and emergency crews later surround the site.
“Earlier, at around 10 am, I was looking from the street, and I saw what looked like orange flames on the top floor of this building,” one resident said.
Another witness described seeing the blaze intensify as debris began falling from above.
“What I saw was that the fire had started to die down; it suddenly grew larger from inside this side of the building. Some debris fell from above. I think the fire may have weakened the structure, causing some of the debris to fall,” the resident said.
Emergency Response Underway
The fire was reported at around 21:30 local time on Friday and spread from the 11th to the 16th floors, according to Jakarta authorities. Strong winds complicated the operation and helped the flames flare up again as firefighters worked through the night.
A renovation worker trapped on the 15th floor was rescued and taken to Tarakan Regional General Hospital for treatment. Authorities said no deaths had been reported.
Jakarta’s fire and rescue service deployed 37 fire units and 185 personnel, supported by three Bronto Skylift aerial vehicles, to reach the upper floors. A later operational update put the deployment at 40 units and 200 personnel.
Firefighters Battle Flames
The fire was reportedly brought under control at around 02:00 on Saturday, after roughly four hours of firefighting. Crews then moved through the building carrying out cooling and inspections to make sure no hotspots remained.
The cause remains under investigation.
