Fuel Shortages Hit Medan

Long queues have snaked through Medan as fuel shortages disrupt work and daily travel across the North Sumatran capital.

Footage shows cars and motorcycles packed outside a petrol station on Friday, with the queue stretching along surrounding roads.

“I’ve been waiting in line for nearly an hour just to fill up my motorcycle. This fuel shortage has been going on for more than two weeks,” local driver Iqbal Sembiring said.

Drivers Face Long Waits

Shortages of subsidised diesel and petrol intensified in mid-July. Some petrol stations reportedly went days without deliveries, forcing motorists to hunt for fuel or face lengthy waits.

“Honestly, this fuel shortage has severely disrupted my daily life because I rely on my motorcycle every day,” another customer, Aris, said. “When fuel runs out, it affects all of my daily activities.”

Supply Problems Continue

Local authorities blamed problems involving tanker drivers and contractors. State-owned distributor Pertamina Patra Niaga described the shortages as an operational distribution adjustment and said regional stocks remained sufficient.

Pertamina said it had added tanker crews and delivery vehicles, while terminals and selected petrol stations had moved to 24-hour operations to restore regular supplies.
