McDonald’s Malaysia celebrated International French Fry Day with a special one-night event that turned Bukit Bintang into a giant playground for French fry lovers. The event, called “Fries From The Skies,” marked the return of the popular Fans Fries Meal and gave visitors a memorable experience in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

Sky-High French Fry Celebration

The celebration took place at McDonald’s Bukit Bintang, where digital screens across the area built excitement before the main event. The campaign was inspired by the many different ways Malaysians enjoy McDonald’s World-Famous Fries, whether sharing them with family and friends or dipping them into Sos Cili Mekdi.

The biggest moment of the night came when hundreds of McDonald’s French fries-themed plush toys were dropped from above. Each plush toy included a redemption card that allowed lucky fans to claim a complimentary Fan Fries meal. As the plush toys floated down, people gathered below reached out to catch them, creating an exciting atmosphere in one of Kuala Lumpur’s busiest shopping districts.

Fans Fries Meal Returns

McDonald’s Malaysia said the event celebrated the return of its limited-time Fans Fries Meal. The meal includes an XXL serving of French fries, an XXL Sos Cili Mekdi, and a small Coca-Cola, giving customers more fries to enjoy and share with others.

According to Chief Marketing Officer Chin Mei Lee, McDonald’s aims to create enjoyable moments for customers through creative experiences as well as its food. She said the company continues to look for new ways to connect with Malaysians beyond simply serving meals.

Continuing A Popular Tradition

The latest campaign follows several eye-catching French fry celebrations held by McDonald’s Malaysia in recent years. In 2022, the company transformed the Bukit Bintang pedestrian crossing into the McDonald’s Fries Crosswalk in partnership with Kuala Lumpur City Hall. It predicted a huge image of fries on the top of the Kuala Lumpur Tower in 2023.

This year’s “Fries From The Skies” campaign followed that precedent with the celebration happening above the city. The Fans’ Fries Meal will be served at McDonald’s restaurants throughout Malaysia, from 10 to 12 July 2026, until supplies last. It is sold for RM10 (roughly S$3.05), providing customers with an opportunity to have an extra large portion of fries in a limited time.
