A Reddit discussion asking, “What are you looking forward to at the end of the work day?” prompted hundreds of Singaporeans to share the small moments that make getting through work worthwhile.

While the original poster was excited for a comforting plate of mala zhong la with scrambled eggs, many replies showed that happiness often comes from simple routines rather than grand plans.

Family moments came first

Many users said the best part of finishing work was seeing loved ones.

Parents shared the joy of picking up their children from childcare or playgroups. One father shared that his daughter would slap both hands against the glass door while shouting “Papa” as soon as she spotted him. Another simply said seeing his child’s biggest smile at pickup made every workday worth it.

Others looked forward to reuniting with their partners. One commenter said the daily drive home after picking up his wife had become their chance to talk about everything that happened during the day, whether traffic was heavy or not.

Pets, hobbies and quiet evenings

Pets were another common answer.

Several users said the highlight of the day was coming home to dogs running excitedly to the door with wagging tails or cats waiting at home. One person wrote that seeing their dog made them feel like “the world was right again.”

Others looked forward to personal time. Some enjoyed going for a run before dinner, while others couldn’t wait to relax with games, TV shows or books. One gamer joked about spending 15 minutes staring at a gaming laptop after work because the day had drained all their energy before finally starting to play.

Sometimes, it is simply leaving work

Not every answer involved a special activity.

Some said the best feeling was simply walking out of the office at the end of the day. Others found comfort in having quiet time alone, using their evenings to recharge after a long day.

The discussion showed that many people look forward to simple moments after work, from spending time with loved ones to enjoying a quiet evening.
