Flood Rescue Operation
Philippine Coast Guard teams rescued 15 families from flooding in Sultan Kudarat, on the southern Philippines’ island of Mindanao, on Thursday, after heavy rain left residents stranded.

Footage shows rescuers wading through floodwater amidst the deluge, carrying residents to safety and helping others onto a boat. Other team members are seen moving belongings and equipment through the water as the operation continues.
Families Evacuated Safely
The evacuated reportedly included four pregnant women, six senior citizens and 26 children under the age of 10. They were taken safely to an evacuation centre, while Coast Guard personnel continued monitoring the area for further emergency situations.
Repeated Flood Disasters
Sultan Kudarat has been hit by repeated flooding during heavy rain, especially in low-lying communities. In May 2025, at least three people died in flash floods in the province, while more than 1,000 families were affected in some areas.

In February 2026, 12 people reportedly died as a result of flooding on Mindanao.
Flood Risk Remains
The Philippines is vulnerable to seasonal storms and flooding, with emergency crews often using boats to reach communities cut off by rising water.
