A 73-year-old man has been arrested in Malaysia after police accused him of sexually abusing two primary school girls in Semabok, Melaka. Investigators said the alleged offenses took place over about two weeks and involved two girls aged eight and 10. The case came to light after the children reported their experiences to a trusted teacher at school, leading to a police investigation and the suspect’s arrest.

According to Melaka police, the suspect allegedly approached the girls while they were waiting near a mosque after school. Police said he offered them RM5 (about S$1.51) and packets of fried noodles before taking them into a storeroom inside the mosque. Officers believe the alleged abuse happened repeatedly between June 16 and June 24.

School Report Led To Investigation

Melaka police chief Deputy Commissioner Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the victims later told their school’s counseling teacher about the incidents. The girls said the suspect was a congregant at a mosque located near their school. After receiving the information, the teacher informed the children’s guardians, who then reported the matter to police.

Police launched an investigation immediately after the reports were filed. Officers gathered statements and other evidence before locating and arresting the suspect. Authorities said the investigation is continuing as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.

Arrest And Court Process

The victims’ guardians lodged police reports on June 24, and officers arrested the suspect soon afterwards. Police described the suspect as an unmarried man. Investigators believe the alleged offenses occurred while the children were waiting for their parents or guardians to collect them after school.

The suspect has been remanded for seven days to assist with investigations. Police are investigating the case under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which covers offenses involving children.

Investigation Continues

Authorities have not released further details about the investigation because it involves child victims. Police said protecting the children’s welfare remains an important part of the ongoing case. Officers are continuing to collect evidence and interview witnesses before completing the investigation.

The suspect remains in police custody while investigations continue. Authorities said the case will proceed according to Malaysia’s legal process after investigators complete their findings and submit the necessary evidence to prosecutors.
