Four people in Malaysia have been rearrested after two more former domestic helpers came forward with abuse allegations linked to a viral maid abuse case. The suspects, consisting of two sisters and their husbands, are accused of mistreating several Indonesian domestic workers at a house in Johor.

Viral Video Sparks Investigation

The case first came to public attention after videos circulating online appeared to show an Indonesian domestic worker being slapped, punched, and verbally abused inside a private home in Taman Johor, near Tampoi in Johor Bahru.

On June 14, Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad announced the arrest of the four suspects, aged between 30 and 34. Preliminary investigations found that the two couples were living together in the same house and that the female suspects were sisters. Police also believe three domestic helpers were involved in the case.

Officers seized several items from the property, including mobile phones, clothing, a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera, and two passports believed to belong to domestic workers. Investigators say the incident shown in the video happened last year. Someone uploaded the video to social media only on June 13.

More Victims Come Forward

The investigation expanded after two more former domestic helpers filed police reports on June 16. The women were among individuals police had been trying to locate following the release of the viral footage.

The Indonesian Embassy assisted both women. They brought them from Kuala Lumpur to Johor. The women then lodged reports with local police. Following the new complaints, authorities rearrested the four suspects at about 1.30am.

Remand Extended

Indonesian Embassy counsel Mohd. Daud Ismail said Magistrate Chai Ing Hien approved a four-day remand order to allow investigators to continue their work. Investigators are examining the case under several laws, including causing injury, criminal intimidation, assault, and improper use of communication networks.

The Indonesian Consulate-General in Johor Baru says it has provided shelter and support to two Indonesian women. The women claim their employers physically abused them. One woman told officials that she and two other Indonesian workers suffered repeated violence at the house.

Police investigations are still ongoing. Authorities are working to determine the full extent of the allegations. They are also trying to identify all possible victims linked to the case.
