The Theft Was Posted Online
Five Vietnamese workers in Japan have been fired and sent back to Vietnam after allegedly filming themselves stealing fruit from a private orchard and uploading the videos to social media.

Reports said the group entered the orchard at night and picked fruit without permission. Rather than keeping a low profile, they recorded the entire incident and later shared the clips online.
The videos soon spread across social media, drawing attention far beyond their circle of friends.
The Online Clips Became Evidence
As the footage gained views, it eventually caught the attention of Japanese authorities.
Police launched an investigation and reviewed the videos, which reportedly showed what had happened inside the orchard. The five workers were later given formal warnings.

Many online users were left scratching their heads over one detail. The workers had allegedly recorded and uploaded the very footage that helped expose the incident.
Jobs Were Gone Within Days
The consequences came quickly.
After the case became public, the company employing the workers terminated all five contracts. Their supervising union then arranged one-way flights back to Vietnam.

Within days, the workers had packed their bags and left Japan.
Criticism Came From Vietnam Too
The incident sparked discussion on social media in both Japan and Vietnam.
Many Vietnamese commenters criticised the workers, saying their actions reflected badly on others working hard overseas. Some said opportunities to work abroad should not be taken for granted, while others called for tougher consequences.
A number of comments also suggested the workers should not be allowed to return to Japan for future employment.

The Price Of A Viral Mistake
The entire episode moved from social media to real life in a matter of days.
What may have seemed like a harmless video at the time ended with five people out of work and on flights home. Instead of keeping the incident hidden, the workers allegedly put it online for everyone to see, including the people who would eventually take action.
In the end, the videos travelled much further than the fruit ever did.
