A video showing a driver shaking his car while refueling at a petrol station in Singapore has attracted widespread attention online. The incident reportedly happened at a local fuel kiosk operated by Cnergy. The driver was seen repeatedly pushing his body against the vehicle to make it bounce while petrol was being pumped into the tank.

The video showed a man wearing a pink shirt standing beside a dark-colored sedan at the station. As fuel entered the car, he forcefully rocked the vehicle from side to side several times. The unusual behavior quickly drew attention because such actions are rarely seen at petrol stations in Singapore.
Attempt to Fill More Petrol
According to reports, the driver was believed to be trying to maximize the amount of petrol entering the tank. Some motorists think shaking or rocking a vehicle can help remove trapped air pockets inside the fuel system. By doing this, they believe more fuel can be added before the nozzle automatically stops.

The incident became more noticeable because it happened at a Cnergy station, a fuel brand known in Singapore for offering competitive petrol prices. Many drivers visit these stations to save money on fuel costs, especially during periods of rising transport expenses.
Membership promotions and discounts at certain kiosks can help motorists reduce their fuel spending. Some programmes reportedly allow savings of nearly SGD 1 per litre during selected promotions. Because of these lower prices, long queues are often seen at several stations across Singapore.
Safety Concerns Raised
Automotive experts explained that modern vehicles are already designed with systems that manage air pressure and fuel ventilation properly. They said rocking a car during refueling is unlikely to create any meaningful increase in fuel capacity.

Safety specialists also warned that shaking a vehicle while the fuel nozzle remains inserted may create risks at petrol stations. Excessive movement could damage the fuel intake area or interfere with the automatic shut-off system inside the nozzle. In some cases, fuel may spill onto the ground, increasing the possibility of fire hazards.
Refueling Guidelines Remain Important
Public safety agencies regularly remind motorists to follow proper procedures while refueling their vehicles. Drivers are generally advised to allow the automatic pump system to stop naturally and to avoid overfilling fuel tanks.
Although unusual incidents at petrol stations occasionally attract attention online, Singapore’s fuel stations continue to maintain strict operational and safety standards to ensure smooth and safe service for motorists daily.
