A disturbing video from Malaysia has sparked public concern after a four-wheel-drive vehicle was accused of deliberately hitting a dog inside a residential neighborhood in Johor Bahru. The incident reportedly happened in Ulu Tiram at around 11.24 a.m. on Friday, May 15, and the footage later spread widely online.

The video showed the vehicle stopping briefly near a road junction before leaving the area moments later. The individual who released the video says the dog’s death was caused by the impact of the car. Many residents were shocked by the incident because it happened in a public housing area during daytime hours.
Incident Raises Concerns
The individual who uploaded the recording claimed the vehicle belonged to a subcontractor agent connected to local authorities. Reports stated that the four-wheel-drive vehicle was allegedly involved in stray dog control operations around the neighborhood at the time of the incident.
The animal welfare groups in Malaysia reacted swiftly when the video went viral online. The Malaysian Stray Animal Association condemned all forms of cruelty, negligence, or inhumane treatment of animals. The group also called for proper investigations into the matter.

The incident also sparked wider public discussion about the way authorities handle stray animal operations in residential communities. Many residents living in urban areas regularly encounter stray dogs near housing estates, markets, and public roads.
MBJB Confirms Worker Identity
MBJB confirmed on May 20 that the person in the viral footage worked for a contractor company handling stray dog control duties in Johor Bahru. Johor Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor stated that authorities immediately issued a show-cause letter to the contractor for allegedly failing to follow standard operating procedures and appointment conditions.

MBJB also lodged a police report to allow further investigations into the incident. Officials explained that authorities would determine whether negligence or violations of procedures took place during the operation.
Authorities Continue Investigation
State officials warned that strong action could follow if investigators confirm any wrongdoing. Some of the potential options include suspension of operations, contract termination, blacklisting, or legal action against those responsible.
Authorities also cautioned pet owners to properly supervise their animals as per the existing local by-laws. Investigations are ongoing, and officials are continuing to gather information relating to the viral incident.
