In November 2017, a small stray dog named Noel was found in Bakersfield, California. She was in a very bad condition with two broken front legs. Rescuers from Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue believe she was either thrown from a moving car or hit by one. Noel’s journey from a suffering stray to a happy pet is a story of great strength and survival.
A Tough Choice for Survival
When Noel first arrived at the animal hospital, veterinarians tried to save her limbs. They placed a cast on one leg and removed the other. Unfortunately, the casted leg did not heal properly. At that time, some people thought it would be kinder to put her to sleep.

However, her rescuers saw that Noel had a “fighting spirit.” They decided to seek a second opinion and eventually chose to remove her remaining front leg to stop her pain.
Four days after her second surgery, Noel went to a foster home. Her foster mother was surprised by how quickly the little dog recovered. Within just one day, Noel was playing and asking for cuddles. She even tried to jump onto a chair by herself. Her owner says that was the exact moment she fell in love with the brave pup.
Learning to Move Again
Noel does not let her physical disability stop her. Over the years, she has developed three unique ways to move around her home. Her owners call the first style the “Snow Plow,” where she slides forward on her chest.

The second is the “Bunny Hop,” using her back legs to jump like a rabbit. Her most impressive move is walking “Upright” on her two hind legs.
A Happy Life in California
Today, Noel is pain-free and full of personality. She enjoys chasing the family cat under the bed and jumping excitedly when it is time for treats or dinner.

While her life started with a sad accident, she now lives a full life with a family that loves her. Her story shows that animals can adapt to almost any challenge if they are given a chance and a caring home. Noel continues to be a happy member of her family, proving that being different does not mean being less capable.
