A minor car accident along Persiaran Batu Nilam in Bukit Tinggi, Klang, Malaysia, escalated into a dramatic road rage incident, prompting social media users to speculate about a possible “accident scam.”

The Altercation at Persiaran Batu Nilam

On Thursday, September 11, police received a report at 4.52 pm from a 39-year-old Honda City driver, who said he had been assaulted earlier at around 1.13 pm.

The man reported that his car was hit after a black Proton Gen 2 suddenly reversed into him while waiting at the traffic light.

Dashcam Captures the Incident

Clips of the confrontation were widely shared on social media.

In the video, the Proton Gen 2 driver is seen grabbing the Honda City driver by the neck, sparking a scuffle that drew the attention of bystanders, who eventually intervened, according to Malay Mail.

The viral video was later reposted on Reddit with the caption: “Car accident scam in Malaysia. Please, everyone, get a dashcam for your car, exactly for situations like this.”

While the post suggested an “accident scam,” police have not officially confirmed this.

Victim Treated After Minor Injuries

Following this, the Honda City driver suffered minor injuries to his legs, hands, and neck and was treated at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang.

Couple Allegedly Drove Without Licence, Road Tax, or Insurance

Further reporting by China Press revealed that the Proton Gen 2 driver and his wife were not the registered owners of the car.

The vehicle lacked valid road tax and insurance, and the driver did not hold a valid licence.

Had More Than 10 Prior Criminal Records

The couple allegedly tried to shift the blame onto the Honda City driver.

Social media posts cited in the report also claimed that both individuals were allegedly drug users and that the man had more than 10 prior criminal records.

Settlement Attempts Broke Down

According to reports, both parties initially agreed to resolve the matter privately, with the couple compensating the Honda driver for repairs.

However, they reportedly said they had no more than RM100 (approx. S$30) on hand and could not pay immediately.

A meeting was arranged for the following evening, Friday, September 12, at the police station. The couple promised to bring partial payment, with a friend acting as guarantor.

When the time came, only the guarantor arrived, claiming he had already given the money to the Proton Gen 2 driver, who said he was on his way by motorcycle. However, the driver never showed up and later admitted he had not gathered enough funds, then stopped answering calls from both the authorities and his own guarantor.

The Honda City driver subsequently lodged another complaint, prompting the police to launch a wider investigation into the couple.

Police Call for Witnesses

Police confirmed the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code (for causing injury), which carries a penalty of up to one year in prison and a fine.

South Klang police have urged anyone with information about the case to come forward. Witnesses can assist investigations by visiting the nearest police station or contacting the district police headquarters.
