A motorcyclist was flung off the Penang Bridge into the sea after a collision with another vehicle on Saturday, 5 July.
The impact was so intense that the rider sailed over the bridge’s safety barrier and plunged into the waters below.
Miraculous Fishermen’s Rescue
What could have been a fatal accident turned into a story of heroism.
Fishermen in a passing boat steered straight to the injured rider, pulling him from the water, rescuing him.
The Viral Video
A viral 2-minute 30-second TikTok video captured the dramatic rescue: the dazed biker was seen floating in torn riding gear, with his helmet drifting nearby, as the fishermen guided him aboard their boat.
Rider’s Own Words
The TikTok original poster, @/Hye_rul, shared that the rider told them he “crashed into the back of a car, lost control, and ended up in the sea.”
This admission helps clarify the cause of the crash.
Public Reaction and Safety Concerns
Netizens praised the fishermen’s quick and lifesaving action. Comments under the video reflect relief and concern:
“Luckily, there was a boat passing under the bridge.”
“I suggest the government install nets or higher barriers along the bridge so that, in case of an accident, people won’t fall into the water.”
Others echoed gratitude and empathy:
“Thank you to everyone who helped… may everything go smoothly for him.”
“Can’t imagine how he could fall from the bridge like that.”
“With the saltwater, those wounds must sting badly… wishing him a speedy recovery”
No Official Word Yet
So far, authorities have not provided details about the rider’s identity or medical condition and no official statement on the cause has been released.
