An eight-year-old boy in Thailand was rescued on the morning of June 30 (Monday) after authorities discovered him living in a severely neglected state inside a drug-fueled home in Laplae District, Uttaradit Province.
Barking Instead of Speaking
According to reports, the boy had been isolated for years, with no access to school or social interaction.
He reportedly mimicked barking sounds as a way to communicate, having spent most of his time in the company of dogs.
School Director Raised the Alarm
The child, identified as “A,” had never officially started Grade 1.
Khaosod English reported that his mother once visited a local school to collect government education support funds, approximately 400 baht (approx. S$15.70), but never enrolled him.
The school’s director, Sopon Siha-ampai, reported the case to the Foundation for Children and Women, led by Paveena Hongsakul, prompting a coordinated response from child protection and government agencies.
Conditions at Home Raised Serious Concerns
When officials arrived, the boy was found living with his 46-year-old mother, 23-year-old brother, and six dogs.

The house was located in what The Thaiger described as a “red zone,” an area known for drug-related activity.
Mother Begged for Food and Money
It is also reported that the mother frequently begged for food and money at local temples. Concerned by her behavior, neighbors prevented their children from interacting with the family.
Coordinated Rescue and Drug Charges
Following this, a joint rescue operation was carried out by the Foundation for Children and Women in collaboration with Laplae Police, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, and education authorities.

Both the boy’s mother and brother tested positive for drugs. They were charged with drug consumption and taken into custody for treatment.
Safe Custody and Support Services
Following the rescue, the boy was placed under the care of the Uttaradit Children’s Home. Officials are now working to ensure he receives counselling, support, and proper education.
Ongoing Monitoring and Recovery Plans
Additionally, the Foundation for Children and Women will continue to monitor the boy’s progress in coordination with the Social Development and Education ministries as he begins his recovery.
