The town was built in the 1950s, and the most notable hang out spot for those who grew up in the area is Queensway Shopping Centre which was built in the 1970s. Today, the place is known for its wide range of sporting goods sold but Queenstown has much more to offer. Here are some of the recommended things to do when you are in the area.

ABC Brickworks

Our local hawker centres carry a wide range of delicious cuisines and foods that cater to our local tastebuds and ABC Brickworks is no different. Wow Wow West offers classic Western dishes at affordable prices while Project Penyek is known for their Nasi Ayam or Ikan Penyet and signature Seafood Platter. For old school food, Bao Zai sells traditional hand-made baos that are made fresh daily and Ghim Moh Carrot Cake’s chye tow kway sees a snaking queue that forms especially during lunch and dinner hours.

A great place to be for many aspiring nature photography enthusiast, HortPark is a known hotspot for those who would like to check out the local floral and fauna as well as a place for great wedding photography. With over 20 themed areas such as a Silver Garden that consists of light-reflective plants and a Balinese garden under a vast canopy in a park setting, there is plenty to see and take pictures of here.

The Pitter Patter Potter Garden, with its vivid colours is perfect for kids, and a Butterfly Garden, with its lovely blossoms and, well, colourful butterflies, will thrill nature photographers. While you’re there, take the opportunity to explore the Southern Ridges in its natural splendour that would make for a great hiking trail too.

For a cafe that specialises in durian desserts, look no further then Durian Lab cafe which is opened by Ah Seng Durian, a trusted durian supplier in Singapore. The MSW durian tart , MSW shortcake and MSW burned cheesecake are all popular desserts here, that you should absolutely try on a visit as they are made with Ah Seng Durian’s own supply of Mao Shan Wang (MSW) puree.

The Interlace

If you are intrigued by architecture, the Interlace is a sight to behold when you are in the vicinity. One of the most ambitious residential developments in Singapore, thirty-one apartment blocks, each six stories tall, resembles Jenga blocks irregularly stacked upon each other to form eight large-scale courtyards. The interlocking blocks resemble a ‘vertical village’ with cascading sky gardens and both private and public roof terraces that will leave you in awe .

Carrara Café

With the ever changing weather in Singapore, any time is a good time to have ice cream in our opinion. Carrara’s handcrafted gelato and ice cream specialises in quirky flavours such as Kopi guyou (butter), salted egg yolk, and even Tiger Beer, that will tantalise your tastebuds. There are many different gelato flavours to choose from alongside a variety of western entrees that will warm your stomachs too if you are in the mood for it.

There are plenty of other things to see and do in the area like IKEA Alexandra but these are just some that we recommend you try when you are in the vicinity. Don’t forget to check out the wide range of sporting goods at Queensway Shopping Centre too!
