Muhammad Rauf is just 16 years old, but he has lived his entire life with a rare and serious heart condition called single ventricle physiology. Since childhood, he has spent much of his time in hospitals undergoing scans and major surgeries.
His condition has gotten much worse since January 2026, and doctors say he now needs another surgery. However, the public hospital pathway is no longer available for the procedure he requires.
Urgent Surgery Now Only Available in Private Hospitals
Rauf’s family has reconnected with his long-time cardiac surgeon, who confirmed that the operation is still possible and medically necessary.
However, the surgeon has moved into private practice, meaning the surgery can only be done in a private hospital—with no public subsidy support.
The total cost for surgery and ICU care is estimated at SGD $390,000. The family is currently raising funds in stages of $130,000 so treatment can begin as soon as possible.
Family Under Heavy Financial Pressure
Rauf’s father, 61, is the sole breadwinner. After years of medical treatments and hospital bills, the family’s savings have been completely exhausted.
He shared that it has been heartbreaking to watch his son’s health decline while trying to find a way to afford urgent treatment.
Despite everything, Rauf still hopes for a normal teenage life — going out with friends, living without constant fear, and not spending most of his time in hospitals.
Doctors say time is critical, and delays could put his life at further risk.
