A Wedding Turns Tragic Over a Plate of Roti
What should have been a night of celebration in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, ended in unimaginable tragedy when a minor dispute over food led to the brutal killing of two teenage cousins.

The victims, Ashish (17) and Ravi Kumar alias Kallu (18), were attacked during a wedding feast in Sarai Hriday Shah village in the early hours of May 4.
A Verbal Spat Becomes Fatal
The incident began as a verbal disagreement near a food stall over who would get the tandoori roti first. Witnesses said the dispute quickly escalated into threats and insults. Around 1 a.m., a group of wedding guests—allegedly including the groom’s cousin Rohit and several of his friends—armed themselves with iron rods and hockey sticks before chasing down Ashish and Ravi.

Although some of their friends managed to flee, the two cousins were caught and beaten mercilessly on the road. Onlookers rushed them to a local hospital, but the injuries were too severe. Ravi died upon arrival, while Ashish succumbed to his wounds en route.
Family, Police Respond to Shocking Violence
Ramjeevan Varma, the bride’s father, expressed disbelief over the senseless violence, ‘We were busy with wedding preparations when we heard about the fight. By the time we reached, the boys were already badly injured—all of this over a roti.’

Authorities responded swiftly. Gauriganj Police took custody of the bodies and sent them for autopsy. Amethi Assistant Superintendent of Police Harendra Kumar confirmed that an FIR had been registered against 13 people, eight named and five unnamed, on charges including rioting and murder.
Arrests Made, Hunt Ongoing
Police have arrested three suspects so far and continue to search for the remaining accused. Officials say further legal action will follow once the autopsy report is completed.
The tragic incident has sparked outrage online, highlighting the volatile mix of pride, provocation, and unchecked aggression, even at joyous family gatherings.
