Marriage often marks a significant milestone in one’s life journey. However, when Nabil Syahmi Danish Askar, a teenager from Kampung Seberang, Sarikei, Sarawak, chose to marry at just 15 years old, his story became a unique testament to courage and determination.
Nabil’s Unconventional Path to Marriage
Nabil, now 16 years old, embarked on a remarkable journey into marriage, defying societal norms and expectations. Nabil’s heart was immediately captivated when he met Dayangku Nazarina Awangku Saifuddin, then 17, at a motorcycle event two years prior, who would later become his wife. “That’s where we exchanged phone numbers to get to know each other better, and since then, we often went out together,” he told Harian Metro. Additionally, Nabil’s worry about being seen with someone else’s daughter without a legitimate relationship ultimately led them to a marriage decision.
Parents’ Concerns on Marriage
Every parent wants the best for their children, especially regarding marriage. This is no different for Nabil’s parents, especially his mother who was skeptical of his decision and seriousness. Fortunately, upon witnessing Nabil’s earnestness, his mother granted her permission and bestowed her blessings upon their marriage.
Worked tirelessly to fund marriage
Despite his young age, Nabil showed remarkable determination in marrying his wife. He took on part-time roles at a car wash shop and as a tow truck driver two years prior. Through diligent saving from these endeavors, he managed to host a ceremony in Kampung Seberang, Sarikei, Sarawak. They tied the knot on May 10th of last year and are now joyfully married, harboring no regrets about marrying at such a young age.
Happily Married, Welcomed Their First Child
Despite hearing from many that marrying at such a young age wouldn’t be enjoyable, Nabil countered this notion, emphasizing the joy that comes with having a wife and child. Regarding family planning, Nabil revealed that he and his wife initially intended to wait a year after their wedding before starting a family. However, much to their surprise, his wife became pregnant just two months into their marriage. Now, they rejoice in the presence of their two-month-old healthy baby girl, Kayra Afeeya.
