The illness began while she was on a family holiday in Singapore to visit relatives and spend time with her grandchildren. At first she had a fever, diarrhea, and vomiting.

She went to a clinic and was given medicine, which helped for a short time. After a brief improvement her symptoms returned and then got much worse, so the family sought further medical care.

She developed severe abdominal pain, increasing weakness, and dehydration. Her family took her to the Accident & Emergency Department at the National University Hospital, where she was admitted immediately as a Priority 1 case.

Critical ICU diagnosis

Doctors found a severe urinary tract infection that had entered the bloodstream. Both kidneys were involved, with abscesses present. She was also diagnosed with diabetic ketoacidosis, a life‑threatening metabolic emergency.

Her illness progressed to septic shock.

She is now in the intensive care unit, intubated and unable to breathe on her own. Treatment includes continuous renal replacement therapy for kidney support, intravenous insulin to control blood sugar, broad‑spectrum antibiotics, and intensive hemodynamic monitoring and medication support.

Her condition remains critical and unstable.

Medical costs and urgent appeal

As a foreign visitor in Singapore without local insurance, she is not eligible for subsidies.

The ongoing ICU care, dialysis, medications, and hospital services have produced estimated medical costs of about $102,000.

The family urgently needs an initial $51,000 to cover immediate ICU care and keep life‑support running.
All donations will go through Give.Asia and be remitted directly to the National University Hospital to pay for treatment.

Any support, including sharing the appeal, is requested during this critical time.
