In a busy city like Shanghai, staying connected through mobile phones is important, especially in the digital era. But what happens when the phone battery runs out?
Shared power banks are quickly becoming the go-to solution to this problem.

According to Shanghai Daily, these power banks can be found in many places around the city like restaurants, shopping centers, and transportation hubs.
The process is simple: users scan a QR code using Alipay or WeChat to rent a power bank.

Additionally, a deposit is usually required. It can range from 50 (approx. S$ 9.20) to 200 RMB (approx. S$ 36.82), depending on the brand.
Simple and Easy to Use
Once paid, users can borrow a power bank and use it to charge their phones. It is also explained that the process follows a simple rule: scan, rent, charge, and return.
After the phone is charged, the power bank should be returned to the same brand’s station.
Apps can also be used to find nearby charging stations, making it even more convenient.
A Nationwide Trend
This shared power bank service is not only limited to Shanghai. According to Energy Monster, there are now over 9.4 million shared power banks across the country.
These stations can be found in cities and smaller areas, making them accessible to millions of users.

Furthermore, users can rent a power bank for a few hours and drop it off at any station in the city. This flexibility makes it convenient for people, whether they are running errands, traveling, or just out and about.
A Convenient Solution for Everyone
For both locals and visitors, shared power banks have become a reliable way to stay charged while on the go. As the TikTok user stated,
“I never ran out of battery because this is so ubiquitous. I don’t know how I would ever live without it.”
This service is very helpful for tourists or anyone without access to charging outlets in public places.
It removes the need for bulky chargers or searching for a spot to plug in chargers, making it easier to stay connected throughout the day.
