Leaving the comfortable city life of Singapore and starting a new life in Chiang Mai, Thailand, as exciting as it sounds, is actually full of different experiences. In a recent video, a conversation between two Singaporean youths revealed that real-life scenario. They shared various experiences of their daily lives, where there were unexpected problems as well as stories of love for a new place.

In particular, the discussion made it clear that even simple things like water usage can be a big culture shock. At the same time, they shared how they were able to adapt to the new environment over time.
Difference in Water
The first big shock when moving to Chiang Mai was the issue of water. Because of being used to Singapore, a young man drank tap water directly for the first two weeks. But after that, he started having stomach problems every day.

Later, after talking to his colleagues, he realized the root cause of the problem. Although the water is processed locally, it can be contaminated due to the pipeline. This experience forced him to change his habits quickly.
Lack of Food
The thing they missed the most when they went to a new place was Singaporean food. They especially remembered the various dishes at the hawker center. One said that the fried rice in Chiang Mai was completely different for him.

Another said that she missed the taste of Nasi Lemak the most. This shows that food is not only related to taste but also to memory. This lack is felt even more when they are abroad.
Motorbike Experience
Initially, motorbike culture seemed a bit scary to them. Especially in Bangkok, they had the experience of almost getting into an accident once. However, their perception changed after coming to Chiang Mai.

Here, drivers drive slowly and patiently. As a result, they gradually started to feel comfortable using motorbikes. One even learned to ride a motorcycle himself.
Close to Nature
They mentioned the opportunity to be close to nature as the biggest attraction of Chiang Mai. Mountains, waterfalls and various natural places can be easily visited around the city. As a result, daily life becomes more diverse.

One said that the view of the mountains from the house fascinates him. This environment has brought a big change in their lifestyle. This quiet environment away from the hustle and bustle of the city is especially attractive to them.

Lifestyle Change
Whereas in Singapore, weekends used to mean hanging out with friends or clubbing, in Chiang Mai that habit has changed. One mentioned that she goes to new places on weekends or goes on long bike rides.

This change has made them more courageous and confident. They feel that new experiences are helping to shape their personality. As a result, living abroad is not only a challenge, but also an opportunity to discover themselves anew.
