Footage released on Monday shows EMERCOM head Alexander Kurenkov speaking with international guests. The video also shows Malaysian rescuers showcasing their emergency response skills.

Simulated Earthquake Rescue

“More than 50 rescuers from Russia and Malaysia spent 18 hours dealing with the aftermath of a simulated earthquake. The scenario was set in the [fictional] Republic of Idelistan, near its capital, Salkyna,” the agency said in a statement.

“Working shoulder to shoulder, professional teams from the two countries searched for and rescued simulated casualties, set up field hospitals and temporary camps, and provided the local population with food, drinking water and medicines,” it continued.

Emergency Training Exercises

The Emergencies Ministry added that the exercises were carried out at a modern training complex and covered six separate areas, including at height, amongst rubble and inside mazes.

The drills involved Russian personnel from the Khabarovsk region, the Siberian and Volga regional search and rescue teams, the Kazan search and rescue team, and Centrospas, as well as specialists from Malaysia.
