Pokemon Sculptures Welcome Visitors

Crowds gathered at Busan’s Gwangalli Beach on Sunday night for a Pokemon drone show marking the franchise’s 30th anniversary.

Footage shows Pokemon sculptures outside Busan Station before thousands of drones later take to the sky above Gwangalli Beach, forming characters including Pikachu, Squirtle and Gyarados.

Fans Travel Across Korea

The special performance drew larger crowds than the beach’s regular weekly drone shows, with families and Pokemon fans travelling from across Korea.”I came to watch the drone show at Gwangalli before, and it was really spectacular and beautiful,” said visitor Jun Woo Park. “This time, it’s Pokemon themed, which I really love, so I’m very excited.”

Another visitor, Ji Wu Kim, said her family travelled to Busan because her child loves Pokemon.”My child loves Pokemon, so we travelled all the way to Busan,” she said. “It was great to see so many of my child’s favourite Pokémon characters, and even as an adult, I was amazed by the technology behind the drone show.”

Favourite Characters Light Up Sky

Visitor Pam said seeing her favourite Pokemon added to the experience.”My favourite Pokemon is Psyduck, so seeing him, even though he was a little bit ugly, was fine,” she said.

“It was really cool, it was very well done. The design of how the drone moves up and down is really interesting.”

Festival Continues Until August

The show is part of Pokemon Mega Festa 2026 in Busan, which opened on July 17 under the theme ‘Pokemon Relaxing Vacation’.

The citywide festival includes Pokemon-themed activities and events linked to the Pokemon Trading Card Game. It runs until August 9.
