The incident occurred on the morning of Saturday, November 23, 2024, at approximately 8:34 a.m. near The Sphere shopping mall.

This incident has raised concerns about safety measures in construction zones, particularly in high-traffic areas.

How the Incident Happened

According to Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), the lorry had been parked at a construction site for brake fluid maintenance when it unexpectedly reversed.

The vehicle crashed through the safety gate of the site and onto Jalan Kerinchi, striking a 32-year-old Hanis riding a Modenas Kriss.

Hanis attempted to swerve to avoid the lorry but was unfortunately struck and thrown under its rear tire, resulting in fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The lorry also collided with a Honda Jazz, causing minor forehead injuries to its driver.

The incident, which was captured on video and went viral on social media, has sparked widespread concern over road safety.

Driver Detained; Investigation Underway

The 32-year-old lorry driver was detained on the same day for further questioning. Authorities are investigating the incident under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which concerns causing death through reckless or dangerous driving.

The investigation will focus on whether the accident was caused by negligence, mechanical failure, or lapses in safety measures at the construction site.

Additionally, according to a Facebook post by a user, the victim is said to have left behind three children, though this claim has not been independently verified.
