On September 8, approximately around 5:16 a.m., four men armed with sharp weapons stormed into a coffee shop in Matang Jaya, Kuching, Sarawak.
Around the time, a female cashier was stationed at the cash register. However, after seeing the armed men, she ran forward and sought protection from another person seated at a nearby table directly in front of the register.
Fear and Chaos as Customers Scramble to Escape
CCTV footage reveals that the shop was not empty; several customers quickly fled in panic as the robbers aggressively entered, kicking over chairs and tables. The robbers’ entrance caused chaos within the premises.
One of the robbers then spotted the cashier hiding with a man, threatening her from her hiding spot. When she attempted to flee, he struck her with his weapon.
Cashier Forced to Cooperate
The situation escalated as the robbers demanded compliance from the frightened cashier. Under immense pressure, she approached the cash register and pointed to a spot beneath the counter, possibly indicating something of value. Despite her fear, she followed their instructions to de-escalate the situation.
Robbers Leave After Taking Valuables
The robbers searched behind the counter, damaging the shop’s countertop and ransacking the area. After obtaining some items, they left as quickly as they entered.
Online Speculations About the Shop’s True Nature
In the aftermath, netizens speculated on social media about the shop’s possible involvement in illegal online gambling.
Users on Reddit noted that similar businesses in the area have been targeted before, often due to debts or rivalries. However, no concrete evidence has emerged to confirm these suspicions.
No Arrests, Culprits Unidentified
As footage of the robbery circulates online, the culprits remain unidentified, and no arrests have been made.
