The Malaysia Sarong Music Run 2025 brought together thousands at the iconic Petronas Twin Towers on February 8, celebrating Malaysia’s rich heritage through a unique blend of fitness and tradition.
Unlike conventional marathons, this event immersed participants in cultural performances, traditional games, and local culinary delights.
Organized by the Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry, in collaboration with Malaysia Marathon and Score Sports Management, the event featured performances from across Malaysia’s 14 states.
Attendees also enjoyed traditional dishes such as Rendang Tok from Perak and Nasi Dagang from Terengganu, making it a true celebration of Malaysia’s cultural tapestry.

Anwar’s Call for Unity and National Peace
Before flagging off the event, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim took a moment to emphasize the importance of national unity and safeguarding Malaysia’s peace.
According to NST, he emphasized the significance of togetherness and well-being, saying, “The most important is health, the second is togetherness.”
Anwar also spoke on the cultural importance of the sarong, stating that while it symbolizes tradition, the spirit behind it is what truly matters.
“If you have a sarong, wear it; if not, it’s fine. What matters is the spirit behind it.”
PMX’s Hilarious Moment During Flag-Off
As the emcee geared up to deliver a lengthy speech before the run, Anwar hilariously took matters into his own hands.
Instead of waiting, he abruptly honked the flag-off horn, signaling the participants to begin, much to the amusement of the attendees.
His spontaneous act cut the speech short and got the event rolling without delay. Following this, he joined the 4,000 participants in a 3km walk.
Netizens React
Social media users found Anwar’s moves both humorous and characteristic of his efficient style. Many shared their thoughts on his approach.
One user hilariously commented, “I’ve attended an event with PMX before—he really doesn’t like to waste time. Everything has to be fast… even his walking speed says it all.”
Another joked, “Hmm, too many stories from this emcee. Hahahaha.”
A frequent attendee of PMX’s events wrote, “He always minimizes protocols and values time highly. PMX doesn’t like unnecessary delays. Salute PMX!”
One person advised, “The emcee should study PMX’s style and protocol beforehand. Time is no joke to him—if you invite PMX, don’t drag the event.”
Anwar’s humorous yet efficient approach resonated with many, making the Malaysia Sarong Music Run 2025 not just a celebration of culture, but also the importance of health and togetherness.
