Johor Woman Pleads Guilty After Newborn Found Dead Below Flat

A 22-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to culpable homicide in connection with the death of her newborn baby girl, whose body was discovered at a housing block in Johor Bahru.

Police said they received a report at about 2.40pm on May 20 after the baby’s body was found in the parking area of a flat.

Arrest Made At Hospital

Johor acting police chief DCP Hoo Chuan Huat said the suspect was arrested at the compound of Sultanah Aminah Hospital during the course of investigations.

According to police, the arrest was made based on evidence gathered during the investigation.

Police Allegations

Investigators believe the newborn was still alive before she was allegedly thrown from the 10th floor of the building.

Police said the fall resulted in the baby’s death.

Checks also found that the suspect has no previous criminal record.

Court Development

The accused, identified as Nuran Batrisya Jamaludin, pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court after the charge was read before Judge Mohd Zamir Suhaimee.

According to the charge sheet, she is accused of causing the death of her newborn daughter with the intention of causing bodily injury likely to result in death.

The offence allegedly took place between 11am and 2.30pm on May 20 at a car park in Blok Rajawali, Program Perumahan Rakyat Melana Indah, Taman Sutera Utama.

Bail & Court Conditions

Deputy Public Prosecutor R. Nevina did not initially offer bail, but the court granted RM20,000 bail with two local sureties.

The accused was ordered to:

* Surrender her passport

* Report to police monthly

* Not interfere with witnesses

She also told the court she is caring for the victim’s twin sibling and has family responsibilities.

Case Referred For Sentencing

The case falls under Section 304(a) of Malaysia’s Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to 30 years’ imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.

The court has fixed July 3 for mention, document submission, and sentencing.
