The activists declared a new and bigger aid flotilla to sail to Gaza. The Sumud Flotilla will involve over 100 boats, and it will have a maximum of 1,000 people, including war crimes medics and investigators. The organizers stated that the Sumud Flotilla to Gaza is the largest civilian-led initiative to support Palestinians under the blockade.
According to sources, the flotilla is supposed to demolish the grip Israel has over Gaza and create awareness of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation Plans
This was announced at the funeral of late South African leader Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg. Campaigners reported that this operation represents the largest organized civilian effort against Israel’s policies.

Nelson Mandela’s grandson, Mandla Mandela, said, “This is to those who seek justice and dignity for all.” Israel arrested him last year during his mission as an activist.
Land Convoy in control of Flotilla
The land convoy will support the flotilla and travel all over the neighboring Arab countries. There will be thousands of other supporters joining via water.
According to sources, this joint venture of the sea and land will raise international concern on Gaza, as well as demonstrate great global unity.
Past Flotilla Intercepted by Israel
In October 2025, Israel intercepted approximately 40 vessels of the Global Sumud Flotilla as they were transporting aid to Gaza. Authorities arrested more than 450 people, including Greta Thunberg and European Parliament member Rima Hassan.

Certain detainees stated that they had been physically and psychologically abused when under Israeli custody.
Aid and International Law Problems
Israel has severely blocked supplies to Gaza since initiating military campaigns, and this has led to the existence of famine-like conditions as indicated by activists and humanitarian organizations. Some aid reached Gaza after a ceasefire, which had been called off in October, but the UN said that the Sumud Flotilla to Gaza fell far short of the actual need. The organizers of the flotilla believe they are doing this under the international maritime law to defy the blockade of Israel.
Activists Are Not Giving Up
Activists anticipate that Israel would attempt to intercept the flotilla once more. Nevertheless, they claim that international law is on their side.

One of the activists, Susan Abdallah, stated, “We have not reached Gaza physically, but we have reached the people there.” They are aware we are after them, and we shall not cease until the siege is over.
Global Attention for Gaza
This flotilla belongs to a rising international movement of Gaza. It will demonstrate international concern and draw more attention to the people that are suffering under the blockade. The hope of organizers is that the public will pressurize authorities to permit aid through the media coverage.

@middleeasteye Organisers of the Global Sumud Flotilla announced the launch of their 2026 mission at a press conference in South Africa earlier this week. Citing Israel’s control over the Rafah border and the ongoing air strikes during a stated ceasefire in the strip, activists including Nelson Mandela’s grandson Mandla Mandela and flotilla member Thiago Avila underlined the need to continue to apply pressure on Israel’s government to abide by the terms of the ceasefire. They plan to send convoys by land and sea, sailing from Barcelona to the Gaza Strip.
