Help Raise S$80,000 for the Family of Late SMU Professor Giovanni Ko

A fundraising campaign has been set up to support the family of the late Professor Giovanni Ko, a highly respected educator at Singapore Management University (SMU) who passed away at the age of 42.

Giovanni was known for his kindness and unwavering support of his students. His influence went far beyond the classroom, as he connected deeply with both students and colleagues through his genuine care for others.

He leaves behind his wife, Pom, and their two young sons, Felix and Max. His passing has placed a significant financial burden on the family, particularly as Felix, the older of the two boys, has special needs that require additional care and resources.

The fundraiser aims to ease their financial strain, helping the family to get through this difficult period.

Sole Breadwinner for His Family

Giovanni was the family’s sole breadwinner and maintained a demanding schedule, frequently commuting between Singapore and Thailand to be with his family. His death has left his family not only mourning his loss but also facing significant financial challenges.

The GoGetFunding campaign, initiated by one of Giovanni’s colleagues at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), seeks to raise S$80,000 to help cover school fees and living expenses for his sons, especially Felix, who require specialized care.

As of today, the campaign has raised S$22,318, but additional contributions are needed to reach the goal.

Heartfelt Tributes from Students and Colleagues

In the wake of Giovanni’s passing, his students and colleagues have come together to express their deep sorrow and gratitude for the impact he had on their lives.

The fundraiser page has become a space for heartfelt messages, each reflecting the love and admiration they held for him.

One student shared a heartfelt memory, describing it as an honor to be in Giovanni’s class. They expressed their hope that he had found peace and freedom in the afterlife.

Another donor emphasized the valuable lessons Giovanni taught, proving his ability to inspire love, self-worth, and community spirit through small but meaningful actions.

Finally, a message from a very generous donor directed to Pom, Giovanni’s wife, expressed sympathy while sharing fond memories with Giovanni. They also wished her and the kids strength during this difficult time.

These tributes, along with countless others, show the positive and lasting impact Giovanni had on everyone he met.

How You Can Help

The public is welcome to support Pom, Felix, and Max by contributing to the GoGetFunding campaign. Any amount, no matter how small, will go a long way in supporting the family during this challenging time.

Additionally, donors are encouraged to share their memories and words of comfort, which will be passed on to Felix and Max to remind them of the legacy their father left behind.
