Mother Sentenced To Jail

The mother of convicted murderer Vickrum Digwa has been jailed for three years after removing the knife used to kill 18-year-old Henry Nowak from the scene of the attack in Southampton.

Footage shows members of Digwa’s family leaving Southampton Crown Court after Kiran Kaur was sentenced on Friday. They walk out of the courthouse and past waiting media.

Kaur, 53, was convicted of assisting an offender after prosecutors said she carried the knife back to the family’s nearby home. Her son had used it to fatally stab the university student on December 3, 2025.

Judge Criticises Actions

Judge William Mousley KC told Kaur that “a responsible parent would have challenged their son” and urged her to “do the right thing”.

Instead, the judge said, she took the knife home and placed it among a collection of ceremonial and other weapons in her son’s bedroom, helping to hide its use in the killing.

Digwa, 23, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 21 years in June after being convicted of murdering Nowak and carrying a bladed article in public.

Police Investigation Continues

Police handcuffed Nowak as he lay dying after Digwa falsely claimed he had acted in self-defence and accused the teenager of racially abusing him.

The case drew widespread attention after police bodycam footage from the night of Digwa’s arrest was released. The footage sparked outrage and was followed by violent protests in Southampton.

The knife was not recovered until seven days after the killing.

Kaur denied assisting an offender but was found guilty following a trial. An Independent Office for Police Conduct investigation into the police response remains underway.
