Nature Takes Over A Busy Crossroads
A busy crossroads in Hangzhou, China, has turned into a scene from a storybook after thousands of white butterflies appeared there all at once. Local people traveling by bike, foot, or car are finding themselves moving through thick clouds of insects during their daily trips.

People are chatting about it everywhere because it is quite a shock to see so many bugs hanging out right in the middle of the road.
Why Are So Many Butterflies Appearing Now?
Experts have identified these insects as cabbage white butterflies. They are currently in their main breeding time. A spring that was warmer than usual, followed by some humid days,

created just the right environment for a large group of them to hatch at the same time. The weather did most of the work to bring so many out at once.
City Greenery Gives Butterflies A Home
Hangzhou added a lot of plants to the streets, which really helps the bugs. Since there are many flowers, the butterflies have lots of nectar to drink. The leaves on the city plants are also a great meal for the caterpillars.

Because of all these plants, the butterflies have everything they need to grow and thrive right in the middle of the city.
A Sign Of A Healthier City
Because butterflies are so sensitive, their presence suggests the local area is in good shape. Experts say this is a positive sign for the city’s overall health.
It is a cool change to see, especially for folks who usually just stare at concrete and cars on their way to work. Nature is basically making its own way into the city, which is a neat thing to witness.
