Influencer Demonstrates Lube as a Primer
In an Instagram video, beauty influencer Arnakshi Kashyap shared how she used a water-based personal lubricant as a makeup primer.
She stated that she began using it several months ago after coming across a recommendation suggesting its benefits for acne-prone skin.
According to her, the product is hydrating, fragrance-free, and doesn’t irritate the skin.
How Does It Work as a Makeup Base?
In the video, she applied a small amount of the clear gel to her face, showing its lightweight texture. She pointed out that while it leaves the skin slightly sticky, it’s not too tacky.
She then demonstrated how smoothly her foundation blended over it, saying the product created a glowing, even base. Additionally, since it’s designed for sensitive areas, she noted that it did not irritate.
She also broke down the product’s ingredients, explaining that components like benzoic acid, propylene glycol, and glycerin aid in hydration, preservation, and texture.
She pointed out that water-based lubricants contain humectants that help lock in moisture, which might be why it worked well as a primer for her.
Experts Warn Against the Trend
While some have jumped on the trend, dermatologists advise against it.
According to Hindustan Times, Dr. Zara Dadi, a medical cosmetologist, explained that lubricants aren’t meant for facial use and may cause allergic reactions or clogged pores, especially for acne-prone skin.
She recommended using skincare products specifically formulated for the face instead.
Mixed Reactions on Social Media
The video sparked a range of reactions online, from amusement to skepticism.
One commenter supported the influencer’s claim, saying lubricants aren’t just for sexual use and advising against those with glycerin, parabens, or preservatives.
Another joked about the awkwardness of buying lubricant at a pharmacy, imagining their parents finding out.
One admitted they initially found the idea strange but were convinced by how well the influencer’s skin looked after application.
Some took an educational stance, pointing out that the stigma around lubricant use stems from a lack of sex education. One person noted that it’s simply a gel and not necessarily harmful to the skin.
Should You Try It?
Although some influencers swear by this hack, experts say it’s better to stick to primers made for facial skin.
Before trying unconventional beauty trends, it’s always wise to do research and consult skincare professionals.
