A normal morning at Kulim Magistrate’s Court took a dramatic turn on Wednesday, August 12, when two men allegedly made a sudden escape after spotting police officers waiting outside. The two accused, aged 27 and 31, had just finished their court proceedings and document submission when they reportedly realised that officers were waiting to re-arrest them in connection with another case. The incident happened at around 10am and was later captured in a short video that spread online. In the footage, one of the men can be seen moving quickly through the court compound before climbing over a fence to get away.

They Had Just Finished Their Court Matter
According to Kulim district police chief Superintendent Syamsul Sinring, the two men had gone to court for case management and document submission relating to an earlier case. Both had previously been charged at the same court on April 30 under Sections 324 and 353 of the Penal Code.
Section 324 involves voluntarily causing hurt using a dangerous weapon or instrument, while Section 353 concerns using criminal force to stop a public servant from carrying out their duties. The two men had been released on bail while waiting for their trial.
The 27 year old had reportedly been granted bail of RM4,000, while the 31 year old received bail of RM3,000. Their case had already gone through several mentions, including on June 8 and July 12, before their latest appearance on August 12. After completing the proceedings in the judge’s chambers and submitting the required documents, the pair reportedly left through a rear door of the court.

Then They Spotted The Police
That was when things took an unexpected turn.
Police officers from the Seberang Perai Selatan District Police Headquarters were reportedly waiting at the front entrance. The officers were there to re-arrest the two men over a separate case.
After allegedly spotting the officers, the men did not continue towards the front entrance. Instead, they reportedly changed direction and tried to make their way out through another part of the court compound.
According to Syamsul, one of the men fled inside the compound before sliding down a pillar from the first floor to reach the ground. The second man reportedly went back into the building before making his way out through a rear passage.
The pair then headed towards the back of the court compound, where they allegedly climbed over a fence and escaped. Police subsequently launched efforts to locate both men.
The Escape Was Caught On Camera
The unusual escape soon gained attention after a short video of the incident began circulating on social media.
The footage, which is around 23 to 24 seconds long, shows one of the men moving quickly through the area before climbing over a boundary fence. Other people can be seen around the court compound as the incident unfolds.
The clip doesn’t show what happened right before the men suddenly took off, so it’s hard to tell from the video alone why they started running. Still, the footage lines up with the police account, especially the moment one of the men is seen climbing over the fence.

The fact that the incident happened in the middle of a court complex also made the footage stand out online. Rather than seeing an escape unfold somewhere remote, viewers saw people rushing through a public court compound during the morning.
Their Original Case Was Separate
Importantly, the case that brought the two men to court that morning was not the same case connected to the planned re-arrest.
They had attended court for proceedings related to their earlier charges under Sections 324 and 353, for which they had already been granted bail pending trial. The police officers from Seberang Perai Selatan, meanwhile, were reportedly at the court because of another investigation involving the pair.
This meant the two men had already completed their scheduled court proceedings when they allegedly noticed the officers waiting at the entrance.
Police have not publicly disclosed further details about the separate case in the reported statement. It is also unclear from the available information how far the men managed to travel after escaping from the court compound.
For now, police are continuing efforts to locate the two accused following the incident. The short viral video has provided a glimpse of the dramatic moment, while the police account has filled in the details surrounding why the two men were allegedly trying to get away in the first place.
