Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has successfully completed a planned laparoscopic procedure to treat an abdominal hernia and is now recovering under the supervision of a specialist medical team.

The procedure was carried out smoothly, according to Datuk Dr Asri Rangga Abdullah Ramaiah, head of Anwar’s medical team. The update was shared through a statement posted on Anwar’s social media accounts.

Planned Procedure Completed Successfully

Dr Asri Rangga said Anwar underwent an elective laparoscopic surgical procedure to treat a para-umbilical hernia. Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive procedure that is generally performed through small openings rather than a large surgical incision.

The medical team said the procedure was completed successfully and that Anwar is now undergoing physiotherapy as part of his recovery. He will remain under the care of medical specialists while they monitor his condition and progress.

The latest update provides further information after the Prime Minister’s office earlier announced that Anwar was undergoing medical examinations. His wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, said Anwar is expected to be discharged from hospital on Wednesday after receiving treatment.

Anwar Remains Under Observation

The decision to keep Anwar under medical supervision allows his doctors to monitor his recovery following the procedure. His medical team has not indicated any complications from the surgery.

The Prime Minister’s current schedule and official duties during his recovery period have not been detailed in the medical statement. Further updates are expected to be provided through official channels if there are significant developments regarding his condition.

Anwar, 79, has continued to carry out his duties as Malaysia’s prime minister while managing his health. The latest medical procedure was described as elective, meaning it was planned rather than performed as an emergency treatment.

Recovery Continues With Physiotherapy

Following the surgery, Anwar has begun physiotherapy while remaining under specialist supervision. Physiotherapy can form part of the recovery process following surgery, with medical teams assessing a patient’s progress before determining when normal activities can resume.

Dr Asri Rangga said the medical specialists would continue supervising Anwar to support a smooth recovery. No further details about the duration of his physiotherapy or his expected return to his regular schedule have been announced.

The latest statement comes as attention remains focused on the health of Malaysia’s head of government. For now, Anwar remains under medical care while he recovers from the laparoscopic procedure. Any further information about his condition or official duties is expected to come from his medical team or government representatives.
