Abandoned Kittens at Marsiling Park
Around midnight at 12 September 2022, TikTok user, Safu, witnessed someone abandoning 5 cats at Marsiling Park. The person who dropped the cats off exited the carpark immediately after.
Out of the 5 cats that were abandoned, one was an adult and is believed to be the mother to the litter of 4 defenseless kittens.
Safu said that, upon witnessing the incident, he had “no mood to workout” and was left “speechless”.
He waited in the area where the cats were dropped off for about 2 hours, but the person who dropped them off did not return.
He noted that the kittens were visibly confused, lost, and scared. One of the kittens even tried entering the drain out of fear.
Rescuing the Abandoned Cats
Safu, who initially felt helpless as it was past midnight and he did not know what to do with these cats, contacted his friend for help. His friend, in turn, contacted their uncle, who was a cat feeder and experienced in dealing with cats.
Without hesitation, Safu’s friend’s uncle headed down to Marsiling Park in a van and brought along cages and food to assist with the rescue mission.
Owing to a team effort, all but one of the cats were trapped and rescued.
In the comments section of his video, Safu profusely thanked his friend and his friend’s uncle for the invaluable assistance.
The Cat that initially escaped
The last cat, which initially escaped, was eventually rescued on the evening of 12 September 2022 owing to the efforts of another TikToker, prettydumbo_ and her fiance. The duo were alerted to the missing cat due to Safu’s video and sprung into action immediately.
Prettydumbo_ and her fiancee located the cat but lost it as the cat, presumably out of fear, scratched her fiance.
After the initial hiccup, the missing cat was rescued. Safu published a follow-up video to update on the status of the missing cat just before midnight on Tuesday, 13 September 2022.
Police Report Filed, AVS notified
Safu has since filed a police report against the person who abandoned the kittens. He has also informed a Member of Parliament about the incident.
It is an offence under Section 41C of the Animals and Birds Act 1965 to abandon an animal, whether permanently or temporarily, without reasonable cause or excuse.
On 31 August 2022, a man was fined $4,500 for abandoning 8 cats at a HDB bin centre.
Cats are presently being fostered by the rescuer
Although many TikTokers expressed interest in adopting the abandoned cats, Safu informed his audience that the cats are being fostered in his friend’s uncle’s home pending the outcome of investigations.
Reactions
After watching Safu’s 28-second video, which has been viewed 89,000 times in just over 12 hours, netizens heaped praised on the rescuers’ efforts.
