Meteor Shower Appears
The stunning Perseid meteor shower was captured on video from the village of Kokorevo in Russia’s Leningrad region.

Footage filmed overnight from Wednesday into Thursday shows spectacular flashes illuminating the cloudy sky.
Annual Sky Event
The phenomenon occurs every year in late summer in the direction of the constellation Perseus. It is caused by Earth passing through a trail of dust particles left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle.

This year, the peak occurred overnight from August 12-13. The shower remains active from July 17 to August 24.
